Description
The 1996 Hampton New Year’s show with Dave Matthews Band and Béla Fleck and the Flecktones is considered by fans and crew alike, one of the most incredible jam sessions to date. The set list that evening reflected a nice array of songs from Remember Two Things, Under the Table and Dreaming and Crash. Béla Fleck joined DMB on stage for 9 songs and Béla and the full Flecktones ended up jamming with DMB for 5 songs. Item #: DMDD28
Details
An emotionally charged Seek Up set the mood for the evening at over 14 minutes in length. Improvisations were the theme that evening with old-school-style variations to the Say Goodbye lyrics, an Improv Jam with DMB and Béla and the Flecktones and a Drum Duet between Carter and Future Man! New arrangements for Satellite, Two Step and All Along the Watchtower were also introduced. Treasured songs of the New Year’s Eve concert include Typical Situation and Ants Marching, both showcasing a fantastic performance by DMB and Béla Fleck and the Flecktones.

one of the two best shows I have seen in my life, any band, since I started seeing concerts in 92. Definite desert island pick for me.

OK.This is one of ....THE ....shows of the 1990s.The band is releasing a 4th show from 1996,live trax 18.That is fine with me.I will grab it.But,no show,IMO, can compare to 12.31.96.This as stated,is one of DMB great shows..EVER.Bela Fleck joins the band. This gig has the great classic version of Crash Into Me with the horns and sax all over it,meaning Bela Fleck.I cant listen to other versions ,none can compare to this version.LOOK at this setlist.Seek Up,Nancies,Warehouse,Say Goodbye,Satellite,Rhyme,2Step,Crash Into Me,41,Minerets,Typical Situation.TOO MUCH !!!!!!!.WOW.People..this is a MUST HAVE GIG.GET IT NOW.CLASSIC SHOW.I LOVE IT...Peace

This was one of three shows DMB gave us for NYE 3 years in a row and that I was fortunate enough to attend each year...after countless shows I've seen across the country in the past 16 years, this trio still holds firm closest to my heart. This show in particular was amazing given the nearly continuous presence of Bela on stage and the truly euphoric vibe that existed all night from song to song, band member to member, fan to fan. Soul Coughing did a great job in their own right for one of the NYE shows but this specific show is one that will forever remain at the pinnacle of the DMB legacy. KUDOS to those in actual attendance and CONGRATS to those that buy this Live Trax for the vicarious experience!
