So Much To Say about the band’s first full set performance at the legendary Madison Square Garden! The show, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year could not be more high energy. Fueled by the supportive fans of New York City, DMB delivers powerful versions of every song on the setlist, including the debut of the jam "Anyone Seen the Bridge?” with Mike Doughty of Soul Coughing guesting for an improvised scat over it that gets the crowd screaming. The band follows up with all out versions of Tripping Billies, Drive in Drive Out, and Ants Marching to finish out the set. The encore has a treat in the form of a rare acoustic solo version of All Along the Watchtower. Item #: DMDD147
I have never been this excited for a live album release from DMB since Live at Red Rocks (1995). Madison Square Garden 10/3/1996 was my first DMB show and in many ways it is still my all-time favorite.
A lot of this is, I am sure, somewhat subjectively dependent on the fact that it was my first. But even objectively, there is so much amazing music on this.
Roi's energetic, impassioned solo on Seek Up to open the show is maybe the best I've ever heard him play. Similarly, his solos on Typical Situation are haunting and goosebump inducing.
Dave claims he has a bit of a cold, but his voice sound brilliant to me and top-notch on virtually every song.
Highest possible recommendation for this one!
